Schools and Young People: Wildlife trails in Parks, Safe walking routes between schools and outdoor play facilities, Outdoor learning in the city and a photographic celebration of Parks and Green Spaces.
1. Schools and Young People
Aim: To increase engagement of children and young people in outdoor learning, awareness of parks and green spaces, active travel and interest in/understanding of the importance of parks and green spaces in the city.
Primary Schools
1. Develop a wildlife trail around your local park – created by young people for young people. This project will include opportunities to work with wildlife experts and Parks Group volunteers to create a trail which can be used by other young people and their families when visiting the park. Work alongside UWE Teacher Training Students to produce your trail.
2. Work with English Heritage through their Heritage Schools Programme to explore your local Heritage Park. Supported by UWE Teacher Training Students, this is an active learning project exploring local area learning.
Secondary Schools
3. Develop a safe walking route from school to your local park – created by young people for young people. This project will include opportunities to work with active travel volunteers, public health colleagues, and Parks Group volunteers to create a walking route which can be used by other young people to travel safely from school to their local park or green space for after school play. Work alongside UWE Teacher Training Students & Active Travel Enthusiasts to produce your walking route.

3. Help to create a new Digital Photographic Archive for Bristol - celebrating Parks and Green Spaces in the city during European Green Capital Year 2015
Contribute images of your local Park to a new digital photography archive being created to celebrate Bristol’s Parks and Green Spaces in European Green Capital Year! Images will be selected by a panel of professionals based in Bristol, including tutors from UWE’s Photography Programme.
A selected exhibition of images will be shown in November 2015 in UWE’s Creative Industries Gallery Space at Bower Ashton Campus, and then tour schools, community venues and libraries through 2016. The digital archive will be permanently housed in Bristol Museum’s collection.
